Presentation
Limping young boy that had been able to walk normally.
Patient Data
Initial trauma study of the Rt shank
No displaced fracture visible.
Questionable discrete translucency in the distal tibia. Therefore a fracture cannot be ruled out. A follow-up examination was recommended.
Typical appearance of a Toddler fracture of the distal tibia. Compared to the initial X-rays, callus has formed along the tibia and the fracture line itself is more visible.
Frontal projections of initial & control study
Red arrows point at the fracture line.
Blue arrows show callus formation.
Case Discussion
Typical presentation of a Toddler fracture that was nearly invisible on the initial standard trauma X-ray studies. This undisplaced spiral fracture of the distal tibia becomes more visible after 1 or 2 weeks, after the formation of callus and demarcation of the fracture line has taken place.
