History of facial trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
ct

A linear hypointense line (green arrow) is noted within the crown of the left first upper premolar (FDI 34) representing an undisplaced vertical tooth fracture. There is also displaced comminuted fracture of the buccal surface of the alveolar process of maxilla (yellow arrows) involving the socket of the left canine. The left upper canine (FDI 33) was traumatically dislocated.

Case Discussion

Dental fractures are usually detected at clinical examination, however, they may be missed in the setting of facial trauma with other severe concomitant injuries. Due to the risk of aspiration of fractured fragments or avulsed teeth, their detection on CT performed for craniofacial trauma is important.
