Torsed testis

Case contributed by Ian Bickle
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Acute pain in the left testis. Initially declined medical input. Left testis is now swollen, but not painful.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

The left testis is larger than the right. Heterogenous testis. No Doppler flow.

The left epididymis is thickened.

The orientation of the testis and epididymis is abnormal. No Doppler flow.

Normal right hemiscrotum.

Case Discussion

The ultrasonographic appearances are in keeping with a torsed and now infarcted testis.

An orchiectomy was performed and the histology confirmed an infarcted testis secondary to torsion.
