Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Fever and cough.

Patient Data

Age: 6 months

Both films are expiratory judging by the buckle of the trachea on each. There is interstitial thickening in keeping with bronchiolitis but there are no major areas of collapse or consolidation to suggest atelectasis or pneumonia.

Case Discussion

Tracheal buckling is a normal finding in young infants and should be taken into consideration when assessing mediastinum.
