Presentation

Possible battery ingestion. Rule out foreign body.

Patient Data

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Rightward deviation of the trachea is seen on the image taken during expiration (as evidenced by diminished lung volume. On inspiration, there is straightening of the trachea.

Case Discussion

This is a case of physiologic buckling (bowing) of the trachea. Buckling is most conspicuous on expiration films due to the flexibility of the trachea in children.
