Presentation

Newborn with imperforate anus, there was resistance during nasogastric tube insertion.

Patient Data

Age: 1 day
Gender: Male
x-ray

Curling of the nasogastric tube in a dilated proximal esophagus suggesting esophageal atresia.

Gas is seen distally in the gastric cavity indicating a tracheo-esophageal fistula.

Hyperinflated lungs.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates typical appearances of proximal esophageal atresia with distal tracheo-esophageal fistula due to the gas seen in the stomach most likely presenting the most common type C.
