Traction esophageal diverticulum

Presentation

Cough, fever. CT to evaluate for COVID pneumonia.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

CT lungs

ct

Non-contrast CT shows linear fibrosis in upper lobe of right lung. Upper third of thoracic esophagus forms polygonal-formed traction diverticula at this level.

There are subpleral zones of ground-glass opacity in both lungs which consistent with COVID-19 pneumonia. No pleural effusion.

No mediastinal mass or mediastinal lymphadenopathy.

Curved linear images demonstrate traction diverticula on right aspect of upper thoracic esophagus.

Case Discussion

CT shows a traction esophageal diverticulum secondary to scarring/fibrosis of RUL. It is a true diverticulum, i.e includes all esophageal layers.
