Transforaminal cervical spine epidural nerve root injection

Previous excellent result with nerve root injection to an outlet foraminal stenosis.

Patient Data

Age: 45-year-old
Gender: Female

CT Neck - Guided nerve root injection

Procedure: Supine position with a mild right-sided rotation of the neck. Preprocedure CT performed for planning. Perineural site of injection identified (left C5). Administration of 1 cc of 0.5 % Marcaine and 4 mg of dexamethasone. No immediate post-procedure complication.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates a left C5 epidural nerve root injection. Selected images illustrating the 22G needle position at the left C4/5 intervertebral foramina for a steroid injection. Dexamethasone and bupivacaine were injected.

The local anaesthetic is used to confirm that the treatment is aiming the nerve causing the patient complains. In this case, the patient referred improvement of the symptoms after the procedure.
