Presentation

Sudden onset of anterograde amnesia which was witnessed by her daughter. No focal neurological or epileptic signs. No recent history of head trauma. Cognitive impairment limited to amnesia.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male

No significant alterations in brain tissue density.

mri

Representative 1.5 T MRI shown the typical tiny lesions on diffusion-weighted imaging in the lateral aspect of both hippocampal cornu ammonis (Sommer sector).

Post-contrast T1-weighted images show no enhancement in the medial temporal lobes.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates that MRI plays a useful role in confirming the clinical diagnosis of transient global amnesia.
