Presentation

Sudden onset of anterograde amnesia which was witnessed by his daughter. No focal neurological or epileptic signs. No recent history of head trauma. Cognitive impairment is limited to amnesia.

The study is normal other than two punctate regions of high DWI signal in the lateral aspect of both hippocampal cornu ammonis (Sommer sector). It is unclear if there is concordant abnormal ADC values. No abnormalities at these locations on other sequences. No abnormal enhancement.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates that MRI plays a useful role in confirming the clinical diagnosis of transient global amnesia.
