Lateral displacement of the patella with a bone contusion of the medial aspect of the patella and the lateral femoral condyle. Thickening with an intrinsic high signal of the medial patellar retinaculum. Moderate joint effusion (hemarthrosis). No chondral or osteochondral injury is seen.
Normal appearance of both menisci, cruciate, and collateral ligaments.
Case Discussion
MRI features are most consistent with a transient lateral dislocation of the patella.
