The MRI sequences demonstrate:
- bone contusion of the medial aspect of the patella and the lateral femoral condyle
- disruption of the medial patellar retinaculum with adjacent periligamentous edema and hemorrhage
- joint effusion (hemarthrosis) is noted.
- both menisci, cruciate ligaments are intact.
Case Discussion
The association of bone contusion of the medial aspect of the patella, and the lateral femoral condyle with disruption of the medial retinaculum and hemarthrosis, suggests the diagnosis of transient lateral dislocation of the patella.
