Large bilateral areas of frontal lobe porencephaly from transorbital lobotomy many years ago.
Note bone fragments on both sides from fractures of the roof of each orbit.
Invented by Antonio Egas Moniz in 1935 for which he shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1949, generally considered the worst Nobel Prize award.
Walter Freeman probably did the most and children were not exempt.
He used an ice pick which he inserted into the orbit beneath the eyelid and above the globe and then tapped the pick with a hammer through the orbital roof and then swung the pick in a wide arc through the brain.
