Transposition of the great arteries (TGA) - fetal echocardiogram

22 weeks fetus was referred for fetal echocardiography because of an abnormal three vessels view on routine anomaly scan.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
  • normal four-chamber view
  • parallel arrangement of great arteries.
  • aorta (Ao) arises from the right ventricle (RV) and appears as a long vessel
  • pulmonary artery (PA) originates from the left ventricle (LV)

Bifurcation of PA forms an image of a baby bird with an open beak (Baby bird’s beak sign).
