Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Male

Transverse distal radial fracture with minor dorsal angulation.

Case Discussion

While this may, at first glance, look like a buckle fracture, it is important to recognize that the fracture extends to the volar surface and it is therefore a complete transverse fracture.

It is very important to recognize a transverse distal radial fracture in children because the treatment is considerably different - several weeks in cast vs. symptomatic support in a removable splint.
