Case contributed by Andrew Dixon
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Fall with head-strike.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male

Right parietal scalp hematoma with underlying fracture diastasis of the right lambdoid suture and right petrous temporal bone fracture. The diastasis traverses the right transverse sinus and there is evidence of sinus hyperdensity and locules of intra- and extra-sinus gas. Trace left frontal subdural hematoma and small volume traumatic left frontal sulcal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

CT venogram confirms traumatic thrombosis of the right transverse sinus.

Case Discussion

A typical case of traumatic transverse sinus thrombosis related to diastasis of the lambdoid suture. The non-contrast CT shows sinus hyperdensity and intra-sinus gas.
