Traumatic haemorrhage into a renal cyst

Case contributed by Dr Andrew Dixon

Car accident one week ago. Left abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 55
Gender: Male

CT Abdomen

Large left renal cyst containing material of increased density consistent with haemorrhage. A left renal capsular haematoma is also seen inferiorly. There was no evidence of urinoma on delayed images. The left adrenal lesion was shown to be an incidental adenoma on multiphase imaging rather than a haematoma. A right chest wall intramuscular lipoma is also evident.

Case Discussion

Traumatic haemorrhage into a pre-existing left renal cyst and left renal capsular haematoma. Incidental left adrenal adenoma and right chest wall lipoma.
