Presentation

Penetrating chest trauma (stab wound) of the left chest wall.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is a left-sided air-fluid level with a displaced visceral pleural line, indicating a hydropneumothorax. Mild mass effect with mediastinal shift to the right. Note subcutaneous emphysema of the left chest wall. No rib fracture is seen.

The right lung is clear.
