Traumatic Pneumothorax

Presentation

Road traffic accident. Complaints of sharp pain in chest.

Patient Data

Age: 9 years
Gender: Male
X-ray

Right-sided pneumothorax with near complete collapse of the right lung. There is effacement of the right costophrenic angle with air-fluid interface indicating effusion/hemothorax.

Mild mediastinal shift to contralateral side indicating tension.

Subcutaneous emphysema in the right chest wall.

Case Discussion

The case presents traumatic pneumothorax due to blunt or penetrating injury.
