Traumatic pneumothorax - subtle (supine chest radiograph)

Motorbike accident. Chest pain.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Supine radiography

The lungs and pleural spaces are clear. Sharp definition of the right hemidiaphragm suggests a small pneumothorax. The cardiomediastinal contours are normal allowing for projection. Displaced right seventh rib and right mid clavicular fractures.

Case Discussion

Trauma CT confirmed a small anterior right pneumothorax.
