Presentation

This patient was stabbed with a knife in the gluteal region. The wound was sutured, and a few days later the wound was swollen and discharging gases and fecal material.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

A wound in the left gluteal region near the midline extends to the right side passing through the medial end of the right gluteus maximus muscle and ascending upward forming an abscess in the right ischiorectal fossa and opens in the right wall of the rectum at 09 o’clock position forming a traumatic rectal fistula.

Case Discussion

Here is a case of a traumatic rectal fistula following a stab wound in the left gluteal region forming a fistulous tract extending upward and to the right and ends with an abscess in the right ischiorectal fossa and opens into the rectum at the 9 o'clock position.
