Presentation

Swelling in the right upper lateral thigh. No pain, discharge or history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Well-defined oval shaped heterogenous hypoechoic cystic lesion with posterior acoustic enhancement within the superficial subcutaneous soft tissues of the right upper anterolateral thigh. It measures 1.3 x 2.1 cm. Multiple tiny hyperechoic foci, likely calcifications, are seen within it. No interval vascularity is seen in it on color Doppler ultrasound examination.

Case Discussion

  • Sonographic feature are suggestive of a trichilemmal cyst.

  • Trichilemmal cysts are commonly seen in the body parts with high concentrations of hair follicles, such as the scalp. Other less common locations include neck, trunk, groin, armpits, extremities and buttocks.
