Presentation

Presented to Emergency department with a history of vomiting following a fall.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Non-contrast CT of the head shows two well-defined, oval, subcutaneous lesions with areas of punctate and coarse calcification. There are additional foci of characteristic hyper-densities in addition to the areas of calcification. The overlying skin and underlying outer table of the skull are intact. Findings are compatible with trichilemmal cysts.

Case Discussion

Trichilemmal cyst is a benign entity representing a collection of keratin and cholesterol crystals around the outer hair root sheath 1. They are occasionally seen in head and neck imaging and should not be confused with malignancy 2.
