Presentation

Multiple mobile painless masses of the scalp.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

Multiple well-circumscribed subcutaneous ovoid soft tissue nodules of various seize (largest measures 33 mm), without overlying skin ulceration or underlying bone erosion. They contain speckled calcifications with no enhancement on enhanced CT images.

Note: non-contrast CT (only a few cuts were performed).

Case Discussion

Trichilemmal cysts, also known as pilar cysts, are benign accumulations of keratin along the outer hair root sheath. Most common subcutaneous nodule, incidentally found in 2.5% of adult patients undergoing head imaging.
