Presentation

History of emotional disturbance, presents with chronic intermittent abdominal pain.

Age: 18 years
Gender: Female

Dilated stomach with sizable heterogeneous mass lesion detected inside the stomach, the duodenum appears collapsed and there are meteoristic small bowel loops. This mass is most likely composed of hair and trapped food surrounding by air and fluid. The small amount of ascites in the cul-de-sac is most likely physiological in nature. 

Case Discussion

Trichobezoars are seen more frequently in pediatric patients and typically occur in young females with emotional problems. The prevalence rate varies from 0.06% to 4%.

This patient was operated upon and the stomach was filled by a mass formed from her hair.
