Triquetral and radial styloid fracture

Case contributed by Andrew Murphy
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Fall down 7 stairs. Tender over left scaphoid.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male

There is an oblique intraarticular fracture of the radial styloid, a triquetral fracture is evident on the dorsal aspect of the lateral projection. The scapholunate interval is wide suggestive of a scapholunate ligamentous injury.

Case Discussion

It is advantageous to 'park' the obvious abnormality and continue searching for any further injuries; triquetral fractures are sometimes only evident on the dorsal aspect of the lateral projection and can be overlooked with ease.
