Patient Data

Age: 40
Gender: Female
x-ray

There is a fragment on the dorsal aspect of the lateral projection indicative of a triquetral avulsion fracture. Additionally, there is a subtle, radiolucent break in the cortex of the volar aspect of the distal radius.

Case Discussion

The triquetral bone is the second most common carpal bone fracture, often you can only see it on the lateral as a subtle dorsal fragment. Before concluding a normal study, ensure you asses the dorsal aspect of the lateral projection carefully.
