A hormonal intrauterine contraceptive device projects over the right lower quadrant of the abdomen.
Case Discussion
The extrauterine migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) can be life-threatening and warrants surgical intervention. Migration is usually the result of uterine perforation or IUD expulsion.
In this case, ultrasound (not shown) revealed no evidence of free fluid in the pelvic cavity and an intact uterus, suggestive of tubal migration of the device.
