Tuberculous spondylodiscitis

Presentation

Female patient with several weeks of neck pain and increasing restriction of movement.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
mri

Enhancing pre-vertebral soft tissue at C2-C4.

Destruction of the endplates of C2/C3 and C3/C4.

High T2 signal in the C2/C3 disc, which also enhances.

Enhancement of the L3 vertebral body.

Extensive bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy.

Destruction of the endplates of C2/C3 and C3/C4.

Associated bony sclerosis.

Prevertebral soft tissue mass.

Cervical lymphadenopathy.

Case Discussion

Tuberculosis commonly involves the musculoskeletal system, with spondylodiscitis being the most common.

It starts at the anterior corners of the vertebral bodies and extends into the disc spaces.  Paravertebral collections are common.
