Tuberous sclerosis

Presentation

Seizures.

Patient Data

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
mri

Multiple scattered cortical and subcortical abnormal signal intensity areas representing cortical tubers.

Multiple linear regions of abnormal high T2 signal seen extending from the ventricular system to the cortex with slightly fanning out near the periphery representing radial bands.

Multiple subependymal hamartomas are noted, one of them is at the left foramen of Monro.

Bilateral maxillary and ethmoidal sinus fluid with bilateral mastoid effusions.

Case Discussion

Two year old male patient with known tuberous sclerosis patient describes recent attacks of seizures. MRI of the brain shows cortical tubers, radial bands as well as subependymal hamartomas with the one at the left foramen of Monro is enhancing.

Follow up MRI was advised for better characterization of the left foramen of Monro lesion to rule out giant cell astrocytoma.
