Tuberous sclerosis

Case contributed by Dr Narek Matinyan

Presentation

The patient has epilepsy and intellectual disability.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Female
Modality: MRI

The MRI of the brain shows multiple cortical and subcortical areas of hyperintense MR-signal on T2 and FLAIR consistent with tubers. There are also multiple subependymal hamartomas, which have hypointense MR-signal on SWI, most likely due to calcification.

Case Discussion

There are multiple cortical and subcortical tubers as well as subependymal hamartomas, with signs of calcification. This case illustrates typical MRI features of tuberous sclerosis.
