Turbulent flow in thoracic aortic aneurysm

Chest pain. Known thoracic aortic aneurysm ? rupture

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female

Note incomplete contrast opacification of the aneurysm lumen due to non-laminar flow causing non-opacified blood to mix with contrast in the aneurysm lumen producing a whirled appearance as compared with normal blood flow in the ascending aorta. Note the kink in the aorta at which point the "turbulence" is originating
