Ulcerative colitis

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

20 x bloody stools last 24/24. Abdomen tender +++.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

The colon is thick walled with hyperenhancing mucosa, being least severe at the cecum. Vascular congestion in the pelvis. No free fluid or free gas. No intra-abdominal collection.

The terminal ileum and the remainder of the small bowel is unremarkable. Liver, gallbladder, spleen, adrenal glands, kidneys and pancreas are unremarkable. No enlarged lymph nodes. Lung bases are clear. No suspicious bone lesion.

Case Discussion

These findings are of a non-specific colitis but reflect uncomplicated changes of ulcerative colitis, of which this patient had been previously diagnosed 10 years earlier.
