Ulnar greenstick and radial bowing fractures

Case contributed by Dr Jeremy Jones

Presentation

Fall and deformed right forearm, mid ulnar/radius, clinical #.

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Male

Angulated greenstick fracture of the ulnar. Normal radiocapitellar and distal radioulnar alignment. Accompanying radial bowing fracture.

Case Discussion

In forearm fractures (especially where there is displacement or angulation), it is normal that there are two injuries: either two fractures, or a fracture and a dislocation/subluxation. In children, the second fracture may be a bowing fracture.
