Ulnar impaction syndrome

Case contributed by Dr Andrew Dixon

Builder with several month history of wrist pain during activity.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Edematous marrow changes are noted at the ulnar aspect of the lunate and triquetrum. Triangular fibrocartilage shows altered signal intensity reflecting underlying tear.

Case Discussion

Ulnar impaction syndrome. This case is rare because there is no positive ulnar variance.  The patient did however work as a builder and his daily activities involved high loading stress on the ulnar-sided carpus.
