Case contributed by Ali Alsmair
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Young patient presented with numbness along the course of ulnar nerve. To rule out cubital tunnel syndrome.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
mri

Thickening and high signal intensity of the ulnar nerve is noted, mainly at the level of the cubital tunnel, with mild adjacent soft tissue inflammation.

Features are highly suggestive of ulnar neuritis. No definite compressive cause could be seen. Recurrent transient ulnar nerve dislocation is a possible cause.

Case Discussion

Ulnar neuritis refers to the inflammation of the ulnar nerve and soft tissue around it, it may be secondary to compression as in cubital tunnel syndrome, however it is also seen in cases of transient ulnar nerve dislocation and snapping triceps syndrome. Dynamic images will be helpful for diagnosis in such cases.
