Presentation

Oozing, bleeding intermittently from the umbilicus ? collection or infection

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

A blind ending sinus tract is noted involving the umbilicus. No collection or abscess formation. No umbilical hernia.

A linear T2 hyperintense blind-ending sinus, of approximately 5.0 cm length, is noted involving the umbilicus.

No intra-abdominal communication.

No secondary ramification or abscess formation.

Case Discussion

Pilonidal sinuses usually occur at natal (gluteal) cleft of the buttocks. The umbilicus is another location.

Our patient presented with recurrent infection and bleeding from the umbilicus.

Pilonidal sinuses are usually associated with hair bundles within the cavity or tract.

No intra-abdominal communication or fistula formation is noted usually.
