Presentation

Ataxia.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Asymmetry of the posterior cranial fossa (the right side is smaller than the left) with a small right cerebellar hemisphere and ipsilateral cerebellar tonsil. Normal appearance of the brainstem and cerebral hemispheres.

MRI features of unilateral cerebellar hypoplasia.

Unilateral cerebellar hypoplasia is considered a rare cerebellar malformation, characterized by the reduced volume of the right or left cerebellar hemisphere with asymmetry of the posterior cranial fossa. The patients may be asymptomatic or present with developmental delay, hypotonia, seizures, persistent headache, peripheral vertigo or ataxia.
