Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female

T2 hyperintense signal involving the right lentiform nucleus, right head caudate nucleus, and right thalamus, with associated cytotoxic edema.
T1 demonstrate hyperintense signal within the straight sinus in keeping with thrombosis.

Case Discussion

Thalamus and basal ganglia infarct on the right side with thrombosis of straight sinus.

Most often the thrombosis of straight sinus and internal cerebral veins involves both thalami; rarely unilateral.
