Upper limb orthopedic hardware impingement

Presentation

Medial elbow pain while shifting gear of a car for a few days. No recent trauma. Past history of elbow surgery - about 20 years ago. On examination - scar in medial distal arm.

Patient Data

Age: 36 years
Ultrasound

At the site of pain, there is protruding metal screw from humerus. There is local encysted fluid around or just superficial to tip of screw. Screw is separated from triceps by this fluid. Ulnar nerve is near screw tip but does not abut screw.

X-ray

Plain radiograph was suggested after ultrasound.

There is protrusion of a metal screw tip from medial cortex of humerus.

Case Discussion

Protruding tip of screw from humerus causing local pain. There is a local fluid collection.

Overlying triceps muscle is normal. Adjacent ulnar nerve is normal.
