Urethral diverticula with stones

Case contributed by Vikash Rustagi
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Presents with recurrent urinary tract infection and hard swelling over scrotum

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Frontal radiograph shows three to four well-defined radiopacities in the region of the scrotum and penis.

On ascending/retrograde urethrography, the left oblique view shows two large outpouchings arising from the penile and bulbar portions of the urethra in which contrast is seen peripheral to central filling defects. These filling defects are consistent with the radiopacities seen on the frontal radiograph.

The findings represent urethral diverticula / sinus tracks with stones.

Case Discussion

The diverticula in this case are likely sinus tracks that formed from a prior infection (or chronic infection). The infection that caused the sinus tracks are remote since calcifications have formed in them.
