Urethral steinstrasse

Case contributed by Dr Vaite Tsing

Urinary retention and dysuria 4 weeks following laser litholapaxy of a 4 cm bladder stone

Patient Data

Age: 32
Gender: Male

Multiple stones in the urethra forming a steinstrasse, also multiple bladder stone fragments remaining in the bladder.

Case Discussion

Steinstrasse or "stone street" are typically found in the ureter following ESWL. Steinstrasse within the urethra is exceedingly rare and in this case is associated with distal urethral stricture disease, presenting a month after laser cystolitholapaxy, where stone fragments were insufficiently cleared from the bladder during the procedure.
