Case Discussion

Urethro-venous intravasation is defined as visualization of the tributaries of veins draining the penis. It is a rare finding on retrograde urethrogram and its incidence is about 1%.

It is believed to result from a breach in the integrity of the inflamed urothelial mucosa due to increasing pressure in the inflamed and strictured urethra leading to urethro-venous intravasation.

Complications include bacteremia, sepsis, contrast nephropathy, allergic reactions to contrast media and even pulmonary edema.
