Usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP)

Presentation

Patient with progressive shortness of breath.

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Male
X-ray

X- ray show reticular opacities with apibasal gradient.

CT

HRCT

CT shows basal and peripheral reticular opacities with honeycombing and traction bronchiectasis.

Case Discussion

This findings are consistent with UIP pattern. UIP has distinctive HRCT findings. If the UIP pattern is of unknown cause (i.e. idiopathic), the disease is called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
