Uterine leiomyoma with red degeneration

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Lower abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

There is a large well-circumscribed intramural mass of the right lateral aspect of the uterine body. It elicits a high signal on T1/T1 fat sat, heterogeneous high signal on T2 with a peripheral rim of iso to slight low signal on T1 and low signal on T2 and eSWAN.The postcontrast sequence shows moderate peripheral enhancement.

Other small intramural leiomyomas are also noted.

Red or carneous degeneration is a subtype of hemorrhagic infarction of leiomyomas that often occurs during pregnancy. Primarily occurs secondary to venous thrombosis within the periphery of the tumor or rupture of intratumoral arteries
