Gender: Male
x-ray

ETT, NGT, UAC and UVC in situ. All positions are appropriate apart from UVC.

The UVC is in the right portal vein. Background meconium aspiration.

Case Discussion

The UVC is inserted via the umbilical vein which extends from the umbilicus to the portal system. The umbilical vein usually intersects the left portal vein and during insertion, the line may turn left (along the left portal vein) or right (and extend along the right portal vein).
