Case Discussion
The incidentally discovered vaginal object was determined to be an over-the-counter bladder support device, this was confirmed by the patient.
Vaginal pessaries for the treatment of urinary stress incontinence come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes; many healthcare professionals are familiar with ring or cube vaginal pessaries. This particular bladder support device is unique in its shape. It is made of silicone and works similarly to other types of vaginal pessaries by lifting and supporting the urethra to prevent urinary stress incontinence. After the correct size is selected, it is inserted using a tampon-like device and is only to be used for a 12-hour span of time. Vaginal pessaries of this particular shape have been shown to be well-tolerated and effective in preventing urinary stress incontinence 1.
