Vanishing bone disease

Increasing pain, worse on exercise.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

Baseline: normal appearances.

Progression (1967): destruction of the second and third metatarsal shafts. Soft tissue swelling.

Further progression (1968): involvement of the first and fourth metatarsal shafts and adjacent tarsal bones.

Case Discussion

Slow but progressive destruction of the second and third metatarsal shafts with associated soft tissue swelling. The patient suffered from increasing pain, worse on exercise.
