Work up for abdominal pain. Incidental finding. Vascular anatomical variation.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

The common hepatic artery arises directly from the aorta rather than as a branch of the celiac trunk. 

Case Discussion

As an anatomical variant, the common hepatic artery may arise from the abdominal aorta or superior mesenteric artery, and all or part of the right and left hepatic arteries may arise from (be replaced by) other vessels.
