Varicose veins on knee radiograph

Case contributed by Dr Alborz Jahangiri

Right knee pain for investigation.

Patient Data

Age: 67
Gender: Male

Incidental finding of tortuous soft tissue lesions on the medial aspect of the left knee indicative of varicosities of the long saphenous vein.

Case Discussion

Doppler ultrasound is the modality of choice to investigate the varicose veins. However, varicose veins can be incidentally detected on a plain xray.
